The students at the Josefa Toledo de Aguerri School are desperate to get a basic education. They want to break the cycle of poverty in their community like
many of their fellow students around Nicaragua. The students are working hard to defy the odds, as only 56% of students are able to complete the 6th Grade in their country. Learning is a daily struggle for these students, as their current school is crumbling. It was previously built with sub-par materials. The foundation is cracking, the walls are covered the termite damage and the roof has holes in it,causing leaks in the rainy season.

The school is also overcrowded, forcing the Grade 5 and 6 students to learn outside under trees. They are subjected to the sun and dust during the summer months and the rains during the winter months. The community of El Puma is located in Chinandega. This zone is hit with frequent earthquakes which puts the students at an even greater risk.

We worked closely with SchoolBOX, the Ministry of Education and community volunteers to build this amazing school in memory of Brett. We are so proud of this fantastic project!
